Bangkok and Macau come out on top at Star Wine List of the Year Asia 2025 – “beyond just lists”
We are happy to announce the winners of Star Wine List of the Year Asia 2025, and half of our Gold Stars have gone to venues in Bangkok, with Macau not far behind in the medal table.
Star Wine List of the Year Asia celebrates the best wine lists – and wine list creators – in Greater China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
“Each and every jury member was impressed by how well crafted so many of the wine lists were,” says judge Stefan Neumann MS. “Many went beyond just lists – they were educational, engaging and fun to read.”
Neumann was joined on the judging panel by fellow sommeliers Stephen Wong MW, Reeze Choi and Salvatore Castano. They enjoyed lengthy discussions on who should take home Gold Stars in the competition’s 11 categories, with two Gold Stars awarded in the Best By the Glass List contest; it was felt by all that Bangkok’s Michelin-starred Inddee and Hong Kong’s vibey Bar Cyclone serve such different purposes, and yet both uphold an impressive by-the-glass program, authentic to their respective concepts, that both are equally deserving of recognition.
The Thai capital takes six out of the competition’s 12 Gold Stars, with three of those going to Inddee (Best By the Glass List, Best Medium-Sized List and the overall prize of Grand Prix). Bangkok’s other victorious venues are Haoma (Best Short List and Sustainable Wine List) and Sühring (Best Austrian Wine List).
Three Gold Stars go to Macau (8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana Macau and Robuchon au Dôme), with other winners in Hong Kong, Singapore and Xiamen.
The Gold Star recipients in our international categories are now automatically entered into the Star Wine List of the Year International Final – the culmination of the 2024/’25 awards tour, which will take place in Vienna this June.
Congratulations to all our winners!

Ultimately, this venue brought together every element which epitomises the short list: a diverse collection of delicious wines, careful balance between styles and genres with enough depth for exploration yet enough safety for comfort drinking; presented in a clean and clear layout. What the judges said:
“A beautifully poetic wine list with a deeply mature and diverse by-the-glass program which draws together wines from around the world and presents them without deference or reverence for established European classics. Categories and criteria
Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners – that is completely up to our independent jury panel.
The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.
The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
