On February 12, Star Wine List went to France to celebrate the best wine lists and the teams behind them for the first time. The event was held at Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris, and Maison Pic in Valence was the big winner with four Gold Stars, including the Grand Prix category for the best list overall. Here are all the winners.

"Star Wine List of the Year France is great opportunity for French restaurants to showcase their wine selection. As a jury member I was delighted to see the number of impressive wine lists all over France and not only for long established restaurants but also for newcomers," says the jury's Jeremy Cukierman MW.

Star Wine List of the Year France is included in our 2023-2024 International tour and the winners of the international categories will qualify for the International final in June 2024 where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.

Here are all the worthy winners:

INTERNATIONAL CATEGORIES:

Grand Prix

– The best list overall

Gold Star:
Maison Pic, Valence

"It is so great, as I know how experienced the judges are, and the level of analysis from Star Wine List! So it feels great and rewarding for the restaurant, the team, the chef. This is a historic cellar full of treasures and it’s quite particular," says Paz Levinson, Executive Head Sommelier at Maison Pic.

"An epic list which starts with a wide range of wines, fortified and sakes by the glass. Considering its location the Rhône selection is immense, along with well chosen wines from Switzerland, Greece, Austria and a small but interesting selection from the New World. Overall a delight for any wine lover dining here," says jury member Ronan Sayburn MS.

"Being sustainable today should be a given for any restaurant carrying about its guests, suppliers and staffs. Jury

The Star Wine List of the Year France jury panel.

For the first ever Star Wine List of the Year France, we gathered a top sommelier jury:
• Pascaline Lepeltier
• Heidi Mäkinen MW
• Ronan Sayburn MS
• Jeremy Cukierman MW

Categories and criteria

Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.

The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: Vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.
