Chi-Fu, Osaka, has the world's Best Austrian Wine List 2025
The Star Wine List of the Year International Final has taken place in Vienna, with Chi-Fu restaurant in Osaka, Japan, taking the Gold Star for this year’s Best Austrian Wine List.
On Monday 16 June, Star Wine List named the winners of its global competition, the culmination of a tour that has incorporated 18 regions since September 2024. In April this year, we held our first awards event in Japan, with Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant Chi-Fu scooping four Gold Stars at a ceremony in Tokyo.
Head Sommelier Kei Tashiro joined this week’s International Final in Vienna via Zoom to accept the Gold Star for Best Austrian Wine List, beating fellow regional winners from around the world. The Gold Star was presented by Patrick Eppacher, Head of Markets International at the category’s sponsor, Austrian Wine.
Judge Toru Takamatsu MS praised Chi-Fu’s “extensive selection of top Austrian producers not only for white and red but also sparkling. The addition of vintage depth creates such an exciting list to read.”

Categories and criteria
Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.
The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.
The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
