About Wunderbrunnen

Located in the historic village centre of Opfikon, just minutes away from both the airport and city of Zurich, Restaurant Wunderbrunnen has become a well-recognised destination for wine lovers and collectors. Housed in a beautifully restored heritage building dating back to 1882, the restaurant combines refined Swiss hospitality with an extraordinary wine culture that has long earned international fame.

At the core of the concept lies one of the most extensive private restaurant wine cellars in Switzerland, built over the decades through the passion of owner Roger Hirzel and his team to include more than 50,000 bottles and around 6,000 different labels today. The collection spans both Old World and New World labels, with a particularly strong focus on Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, Austria, Italy and specifically matured Swiss wines. Large formats and back vintages form an essential part of the programme, allowing for thrilling verticals and the chance to taste highly allocated wines rarely found in traditional restaurant settings.

Thanks to Coravin, the wine aficionado can also enjoy a broad selection of exceptional rarities by the glass!

More recommendations

  • Besides a full range of local wine, there is a huge range of wine from the rest of the world. There is plenty of wine for customers to choose from. Never easy to run such a big wine by the glass list! And there is even an Asian selection, said jury member Reeze Choi about the gold for Best By the Glass List 2024.

  • This is a very complete by-the-glass program. The selection is comprehensive, including all kinds of wine, with a wide range of grape varieties and countries. It offers customers a lot of choice, and there are some nice old vintage wines, too. [Best By the Glass List winner, Star Wine List of the Year Switzerland 2025.]

  • An ambitious Austrian wine program built around the benchmark wines. They have examples by the glass, in large formats, sweet wines, great, timeless whites with age plus a small section outside the usual suspects, and a deep red wine list.
