Barents is a new and exciting project in Riga’s fine dining scene, created by owners who know and understand fine dining and pay great attention to details when it comes to food and ambience! As the name suggests, the menu reflects mostly fine selected seasonal sea-food from cool waters with minimalistic cooking. The chef’s team is led by Ivans Šmigarevs, who has worked and gained his knowledge and experience at Vincents restaurant, and here you can either go à la carte or experience the tasting menu. Barents has an open kitchen and for those who want to be closer with the chef, the chef's table is a must! Barents Wine List
The wine program is managed by Kaspars Reitups, three time Latvian and two time Baltic sommelier champion, who Joined Barents team from the beginning. Barents wine list is created with carefully selected small producers, mostly from cool European climates and a compact selection from South Africa. There is a strong accent on German and Austrian wines, with larger formats and older vintages! Most of the wines from their wine list are directly sourced from producers, allowing honest margins and wines which you will not find in other restaurants in Riga! Barents tasting menu is complemented by a terroir wine pairing, as the name suggests, wines which reflect their origin, and an Élevage wine pairing, where you have the chance to try wines with perfect maturity! Wine Tasting at Barents
Barents offers two different wine pairings to our tasting menu: Terroir and Élevage. Terroir represents wines true to their location and culture, showcasing the flavour of place. Élevage shows wines capability to age and discovers new flavours in wine when it reaches maturity.
