Raimonds found his passion for wine and hospitality while working at the renowned restaurant Vincents for 20 years. He started to compete in 2006 and after winning the Latvian and Baltic sommelier competitions several times, his ambitions grew. His first Best Sommelier of the World competition was in 2010, in Chile. In the ASI Best Sommelier of the World competition in 2016, he managed to finish number 7, and in 2017 he won the title of ASI Best Sommelier of Europe & Africa. He accomplished his goal in 2023 in Paris when he was named ASI Best Sommelier of the World.
He studied in the famous Austrian Wine Academy in Rust where he passed his WSET Diploma in Wines & Spirits. He also holds the World record for sabering 71 bottles of Champagne in just 60 seconds.
Raimonds is the Wine Director at Barents Wine Collectors, a Global Brand ambassador at Mosphera, a board member at the Latvian Sommelier Association, a wine judge at the prestigious Decanter Wine World Awards, a jury member for the “Latvia’s Wine of the Year” contest and owner of Ltd. Raimonds Tomsons Wine Consulting.
