Portland Wine List

About Portland

Portland Restaurant gives as equal weight to the wine as to the food, and there is nothing stuffy about this Michelin-starred contemporary fine-dining place. It has had a star since its first year in 2015, offering a monthly changing tasting menu and à la carte. The kitchen is able to look after vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy-free dietary requirements, which makes life easy for many guests.

The wine list is always shifting, since they take on small allocations of each wine to ensure they can keep things interesting. I love the option for the by-the-glass wines also to be served by half carafe – a format which still conveys the concept of sharing with the table without having the whole bottle. This mid-sized list has something for everyone stylistically, with classics, newer regions, low-intervention and some older bottles scattered through the pages. An easy-to-navigate menu split by type, such as the whites divided into “Fresh, Crisp & Aromatic”, “Chardonnay & Co.” and “Rich & Full Bodied”.

There is a private dining room seating seven to 12 people and, with corkage at £40 per bottle, it makes for a wonderful place for your own event. Portland is part of the Woodhead Restaurant Group, which also owns other excellent wine-centric venues – 64 Goodge Street, Clipstone, Quality Chop House and Quality Wines.
