Doppo Wine List

About Doppo

Doppo, a casual Tuscan-accented restaurant, is definitely a hidden gem in the heart of London’s buzzy Soho. With no website, you could easily think it was just a pop up or fly-by-night place. Instead, this is a spot I recommend time and again to visitors in London who just want good wine and food, and would otherwise never discover it.

Bookings are taken via an OpenTable reservation link on their Instagram page or through a Google search, and while the process is a little unconventional, it is by no means difficult.

The list, at around 700 references, is impressively strong in multiple categories, having been a finalist in Star Wine List of the Year’s Best By the Glass and Best Long List categories for the UK 2025 competition. To match the Italian-slanted food, however, it is the award-winning Italian list that stands out as the strongest. Start with the generous by-the-glass offerings while you settle in and leaf through the magazine-style format – a unique wine list presentation that makes you feel at home in this relaxed and friendly establishment.

Take your time with this labour of love, which brings together both new-style wines and classics, along with a good “Library” category. The list has been designed to read easy, so just keep flicking through the pages. True to the Italian adage, “amici e vini sono meglio vecchi” (“friends and wines improve with age”), they have sourced older vintages with careful provenance.

For those seeking something less grand, there are also plenty of wines below £50. The only challenge is deciding what to choose!

More recommendations

  • An impressive Italian list – you can see why this is a favourite among those in the know who love good wine and good food. It has fabulous by-the-glass options, delightful older bottles to explore and an extensive but easy-reading bottle list to help consumers narrow their choices (even those with a new enthusiast’s level of knowledge). Reasonable prices entice patrons to explore and upgrade to wines they may not normally order. This is a place that will inspire many people toe-dipping into wine to dive in! • With a strong focus on Italy, the winning list combines remarkable depth with clarity. It offers very good value throughout and is presented with precision and care, making it easy and compelling to read. [Gold Star, Best Long List – Star Wine List of the Year UK 2026.]

  • Rising to the fore in a strong field, the winning list shows both confidence and a deep understanding of Italy without pretence. Affordable and aged options sit comfortably beside each other and, despite having a favourite region, it does not neglect the others. The presentation made perusing the list a joy and, as the cherry on top of zeppole, it even highlights Italy’s contribution to wine made elsewhere. Bravi!
