The Black Book Wine List

About The Black Book

This basement wine and cocktail bar set within Soho’s lively streets is for those in the know, especially perfect if looking for somewhere open late. Its unassuming entrance leads to a casual hangout where you can order some simple plates while looking at the wine list, which has a large number of by-the-glass offerings by Coravin.

The real secret is its namesake: The Black Book. Be ready to spend time leafing through this handwritten notebook of single-bottle surprises. Once a wine is sold, it’s crossed off, making the book a constantly evolving trove of gems. You might stumble across an aged bottle, an icon wine or an offbeat curiosity – all offered at remarkable value for their standing, with the aim of seeing these beauties opened.

Walk-ins are welcome until 2.30am, with closing at 3am, making it an ideal spot for a last great bottle to share after dinner elsewhere for a change of scene. It comes from the same wine-centric team that owns Cabotte, Blandford Comptoir and Comptoir Café and Wine.

More recommendations

  • One of my favourite water holes in London ever since it opened its doors as Trade pre-pandemic. The "black book" keeps surprising and looking back at all the curiosities other wine enthusiasts have enjoyed is almost just as exciting as the current selection. A must if you're in Soho and the fact that they serve food until late is a huge bonus.
