About Ellerman House
Ellerman House is a luxurious five star hotel and Cape Edwardian mansion situated on Kloof Road in Bantry Bay. The terrasses overlook the sea where the sun sets, arguably the best setting in Cape Town in this regard. The hotel is very exclusive and private, so not a place where you can simply pop in for a drink on your way home, you will need to make a reservation in advance (maybe even plead a little bit) in order to be admitted. It’s worth it.
About the Ellerman House Wine List
A lot of focus is dedicated to wine at Ellerman House, they have a dedicated Dom Pérignon Cellar and Wine Gallery that holds just about 7500 bottles of South African wine. Not bad for a property that only has 13 bedrooms and 2 villas. The team only add wine to the list that they deem to have matured close to peak drinking in their cellar, resulting in plenty of gems that can no longer be found elsewhere, and that at very affordable prices. Check out the CWG wines from the 90’s and early 2000, or the lengthy vertical of Eben Sadie’s Columella.

Cape Town has everything; the ocean and the mountain, but also...the wind! The so-called Cape Doctor, or the South-Easter, can pound the city hard at times. This is however seldom a problem on the spot where Ellerman House is located, at the slopes of Lions Head, with a picture-perfect view of the sun setting in the Atlantic sea.
