About Bocanariz
Bocanariz is a small, delicate wine bar located in the lively Gràcia neighbourhood of Barcelona – one of the city’s most historic districts, known for its plazas, constant energy, and strong gastronomic culture.
Opened in 2020 by Cristian Viera and Paula Matthews, Bocanariz is a genuinely gastronomic space built around what in Spain we often call a gastrobar concept: carefully thought-out, well-executed food served in a relaxed, informal setting. Dishes that have already become house classics include the citrus-cured scallop and the tuna toast, both clear expressions of this balance between precision and accessibility.
What will you find at Bocanariz? A thoughtful, effective kitchen, around 320 wine references, and approximately 25 wines by the glass. The wine selection focuses strongly on Catalan wines, which make up about 60% of the list, complemented by bottles from Georgia, Chile, France, Slovenia, Germany, and Austria. The list is deliberately dynamic, evolving constantly as new producers and vintages appear.
If you want to discover Catalan wines that are currently shaping trends, this is a place you shouldn’t miss. Bocanariz is deeply committed to working directly with producers – visiting them, knowing them personally, and understanding their stories first hand. Whenever possible, they prioritise direct purchasing over distribution. Among the producers you may encounter are Plana d’en Jan (Penedès), Vinestar Wines (Penedès), and Vinyas d’Empremta in Navàs – small wineries gaining recognition within the elite thanks, in part, to the work of Cristian and Paula, who act as their voice in the city.
