About Berners Tavern
Berners Tavern is located in the 5-star London Edition hotel (luxury arm of Marriott) in Berners Street, off Oxford Street, and adjacent to Soho’s Wardour Street. Jason Atherton, chef-restaurateur of the Social restaurant group, has been consulting since its opening in 2013. Berners Tavern offers all-day dining, from breakfast to dinner, and the menu is seasonal contemporary British-inspired. The dining room is imposing in an old-school New York brasserie style with baroque-style ceilings, huge chandeliers, and over 200 paintings and photographs decorating the walls. The atmosphere is casual but in a stylish and well-done way, with great attention to detail and service. The bar has a good classic selection of snacks and well-made cocktails.
The wine list is enormous and has wines from all parts of the world, with strong classic French and Italian selections, but also newer more modern origins and styles, including orange and non-alcoholic wine. The by-the-glass selection is big, with 14 white wines and 14 red wines available, plus also 6 sparkling wines, a rose and an orange wine, which means that there are lots of choices and lots of price points. The sommelier team is always on hand and takes a major part in leading the service. This is one of my favourite go-to places in London, either catching up with friends for a drink, for business meetings, or having a meal with the family.
