64 Goodge St Wine List
About 64 Goodge St
Smart and stylish bistro 64 Goodge Street is the sister to the one-star Portland and local gem Clipstone, both just around the corner in Fitzrovia, the Bohemian area situated just north of Oxford Street. The food is French (albeit, as they say ‘from an outsider’s point of view’) and provides a welcome return to the traditional starters/mains/dessert format in a city overrun with small plates.
Packed with the likes of onion farci, lobster vol au vent, morteau sausage and Bayonne ham, every dish is deliciously thirsty for wine. The European-leaning list has a generous range of wines served by the glass and carafe, with red and white bottles divided into lighter and richer styles. There is a special focus on Burgundy and finally an enticing little ‘cellar list’ comprising 40-50 rarer/older/special bottles. For a wine list of not much more than 100 bottles it’s been superbly chosen, with intrigue, variety and appeal at every price point.
