Matos Bar de Vins & Enoteca occupies a classic boutique in the upper part of Barcelona (Sant Gervasi). The restaurant stands out for its careful and elegant decoration and a striking table with capacity for 20 people, ideal for sharing and tasting.
They opened their doors in April 2015 intending to complement their activity as an importer and distributor of top wines. José Luis Matos, together with his daughters Anna and Claudia, manages a place that is a welcoming wine bar and shop. Its simple food menu is composed of delicatessen products: Cantabrian anchovies, smoked sardines from Casa Santoña, Iberian ham from Guijuelo de Guillén, signature cheeses and more.

Its impressive wine list has more than 350 references and an extended chapter for 50 old vintage classic wines (1980 to 2005) such as Clos Mogador, Chateau d'Yquem, Opus One, Château La Fleur-Petrus, among others. All the references are at retail price, and a very low corkage fee is required if you want to drink the wines there.
I always find this place a true bargain in terms of quality and price ratio. More than 25 wines by the glass open every day and with continuous rotation; they always want the selection to be very varied in terms of areas, production, varieties. Every year they add a couple of new wineries to their portfolio but always try to find small productions at affordable prices.
They declare themselves truly wine lovers; they are passionate and honest about the work they do. I have special admiration to José Luis, although he is not usually in the house. He is one of the first top tasters we had in town, and a pioneer to promote the wine scene.
