About Vinmagasinet

Slowly but surely, the new district of Varvsstaden is taking shape in Malmö. A meeting point between preserved industrial architecture and new construction, where some of the city’s most interesting restaurants have already taken root, creating a new destination for food and drink. One of the latest additions is Vinmagasinet – a wine bar with a clear and uncompromising focus on wine, opened by two well-known restaurant profiles in the city, Melissa Gardarsdottir Pekkanen and Onni Pekkanen.

Vinmagasinet is housed in an old warehouse that has retained its industrial character, with raw walls marked by peeling paint, large factory windows, and soaring ceilings. Custom-made furniture in warm mahogany, crafted by a local carpenter, results in a contemporary wine setting with strong character. When summer arrives, the outdoor seating opens in a prime sunny location, overlooking the square where food, drink, and people come together in a new corner of Malmö. The name is drawn both from the building’s history and from the bar’s clear focus.

The wine list confidently spans Europe, whether you’re looking for a bottle or a glass. Under Onni’s guidance, every selection is carefully curated, with a strong emphasis on France and Burgundy, while Piedmont also holds a prominent place among the red wines. The list is substantial and constantly evolving, with the by-the-glass selection changing daily; wines range from accessible bottles to rarer finds for those in search of something unique.

There is no dinner menu but, instead, a well-curated selection of snacks featuring cheeses, charcuterie, and small bites from some of Europe’s finest producers. The owners’ backgrounds – at some of the city’s top restaurants – is evident in the instinctive precision of the ingredient selection. The menu is short, but personal and meticulously crafted. (When Onni says they serve Europe’s best olives, it’s probably true.)

Vinmagasinet exudes the calm confidence of a grown-up wine bar, where a sense of ease lingers in the walls, allowing you to focus entirely on the wine – and the conversation.
