About La Fonderie
In a beautiful red brick building, which used to be a foundry, you'll find La Fonderie – a name that (of course) means “foundry.” The restaurant is located in Varvsstaden, an area that was once part of Malmö's industrial harbour but has now been transformed into the city's newest district, connected to the city centre by a bright red bridge. Here, modern architecture meets preserved elements of the historical heritage, creating a stylish spot for food and wine. And this is a place for Burgundy lovers.
The cuisine at La Fonderie, as the name suggests, is French, offering classic dishes like pâté, onglet, and moules-frites as staples. The décor is understated, with dark walls, shades of grey, and subdued lighting. At the centre of the venue is a surrounding bar serving expertly-crafted cocktails, while the music is low-key, catering to guests seeking a relaxed evening. In the summer, the spacious outdoor terrace opens, offering views of the harbour basin and Malmö’s city centre on the opposite side.
The wine menu spans classic regions, mainly from France, though Italy and Spain are also represented to a smaller extent, with options across various price ranges. You'll find everything from prestigious Champagnes and intriguing sparkling wines from lesser-known appellations, to carefully selected options from the Jura and Loire. However, the main focus is on Burgundy, for both white and red wines. Naturally, the menu also includes natural wine producers and orange wines – after all, this is Malmö.
