About Laredo
Laredo is a very classic Spanish restaurant situated just behind Retiro Park (one of the most beautiful parks in Madrid), established in 1993 by the Laredo family. Since the beginning, they've focused on the freshest and finest quality ingredients from Mercamadrid (the largest fresh food market in Spain), which they secure at 5am every day, before service. In the process, Laredo has become especially popular for its scarlet prawns and white shrimps.
Nowadays, Laredo is run by three brothers: Miguel, David and Javier. The restaurant is always busy and a favourite meeting place for local wine professionals. It is divided into a bar space, where you can have a great tapas selection and more casual meal, and the upper floor, which offers a more formal restaurant scene.
The wine list is massively extensive and very well chosen. In fact, they need to split it into three books (sparkling, white and red wines) focusing on Spain, Champagne and Burgundy, all wisely selected by Miguel. If you are a Burgundy lover this is the right spot for you, as they have one of the best verticals of Francois Mikulski, Armand Rousseau and Jean-Marc Roulot in Madrid.
Fun fact: if you have chosen a premium or unique cuvée, Miguel will approach you to have a few words. Salud!
