About Kai Mayfair
Kai is a Chinese fine dining restaurant located on South Audley Street, in the western part of Mayfair, and first opened in 1993, owned by Malaysian Bernard Yeoh. The food is focused on seafood and inspired by the coastal Nanyang region. In 2009 it gained a Michelin star which has been retained to this day. The dining room is small and slightly old school, but authentic and cosy nevertheless. The food is comforting, of very high quality, and has a strong traditional direction with modern twists. Kai is open for lunch and dinner all weekdays.
The wine list is significant in size and selection and includes wines from all parts of the world, but with especially strong white and red Burgundy, red Bordeaux, Rhone, and Italian selections. The wine approach is relatively classic and centred on fine wine, however, the list also includes a Chinese wine and sake range, as well as modern cocktails, and quite a large non-alcoholic drinks and tea selection. The service is personal and attentive, and I find this is a good place to go both with family and for business meetings.
