About Brogatan
Brogatan doesn’t easily fall into the categories of restaurant or wine bar. Offering a wealth of activities, there’s late-night indie concerts and stand-up comedy to basement techno clubs, bistro-style food – and good wine. I enjoy coming here because there isn’t a set list for glass servings and the sommelier is happy to open interesting bottles to serve by the glass. There’s also a great vibe and mix of people, especially in autumn and winter.
The owners of Brogatan lead a creative group that has updated a classic venue, transforming it into a bustling living room and cultural hub where guests of all ages and styles love to hang out. The interior retains its old bistro charm, the centre piece a beautiful, rounded bar that usually gathers a crowd. If you look closely, you’ll see carved grapevines in zinc along the bar’s edges, which are illuminated by a neon red light art installation. You can enjoy a glass of wine at the lively bar, at the bistro tables, or in the more private and calmer inner room where you will be seated.
What I love about this place is that they are never afraid to open good bottles and serve by the glass. It’s all about the sommelier’s intuition paired with your curiosity. And it’s seldom the same. The wine list is continually changing but always with a focus on natural wines from around Europe. It is small but carefully selected, with a range spanning fun, funky orange fizz to well-produced bottles from cult winemakers.
