The winners of Star Wine List of the Year Austria 2025 were announced on Sunday, 15 June in the grounds of Weingut Fritz Wieninger, in Vienna’s Stammersdorf district. The Best Long List in the country is to be found at Döllerer, in Golling.

Located in the beautiful town of Golling, just south of Salzburg, Döllerer is a family-run restaurant (plus hotel and enoteca) dating back to 1909. It has been presented with a Gold Star for the Best Long List at Star Wine List of the Year Austria 2025 during an awards ceremony in Vienna, a category sponsored by Esterházy.

“A glass of wine is sold by enthusiasm, fun, and taking the client and showing them new areas, new grapes, forgotten vintages, and wines that cannot be found on the map – that is the job of the sommelier,” said Head Sommelier Alex Koblinger MS.

His Gold Star was presented by Esterházy’s Wolfgang Hewarth. “It’s a great opportunity to be part of Star Wine List today,” Wolfgang said on stage. “It’s amazing to see what possibilities we have in Austria, and which great wine lists are offered to the guests, and the kind of effort the sommeliers are giving every day. It’s so important for all winemakers in Austria because, often, this is the way people get their first contact with the wines.”

Döllerer now moves on to the Star Wine List of the Year International Final, also taking place in Vienna, on Monday 16 June 2025 – the team will face fellow Best Long List Gold Star recipients from around the world.

“A truly world-class list that showcases the effort, dedication and attention to detail of the sommelier team behind it,” says judge Mikk Parre. “A wonderland for any sommelier or wine-enthusiast, with diversity, depth and variety. This is a stand-out list in terms of range, with a sizeable selection of wines also from outside of Europe and a very exciting collection of sweet wines.”

Meet all of our Austrian winners.

Categories and criteria

Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.

The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.

The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
