Mountain Wine List

About Mountain

The team behind the popular (and great) Brat restaurant in Shoreditch has done it again, this time in Soho. We would probably define this as a fine-casual-dining restaurant if we could, and fine it is. With two levels of dining and bar seating on both floors, you can either reserve a table for lunch or dinner, or drop in.

The cuisine has a lot of cooking over fire, just like Brat, and there are bites, small dishes and mains to choose from. With the staff knowing what they do, we simply ask them for navigation.

Wine-wise, well, it follows in the footsteps of Brat but does even better – Mountain won a range of awards from Star Wine List’s jury even in their first year. And you can see by the empty bottles lining all the windows and shelves that this is a place for wine lovers. The wine list mentions “From the mountain to the sea” and focuses on France, Italy and the Iberian peninsula (the latter being an influence in the kitchen too). A great page is the “Down to Earth” list, a selection at max £50 per bottle.

A treat when you are in London.

  • ”This venue has thoroughly taken small producers and terroir-driven wines to its heart. Each wine is chosen carefully and the list gives stage both for established producers and future stars. It would be hard to choose what not to drink,” said Heidi Mäkinen about Mountain winning the UK Best Long List in 2024.

  • A superb list altogether. Clever layout and selection. A list put together with taste, skills and soul, said Julie Dupouy-Young about Mountain winning Best Newcomer List UK 2024.

  • A strongly philosophical list with a strongly modern point of view on Spain, from sparkling to refreshing, saline, and complex young whites, through rosé, orange, to reds with altitude and attitude. Respecting the influences of the coast, islands and mountains, this collection is not the largest, nor is it exhaustive, but it invites the diner to think differently about the wines of Spain and this is what brought the judges to agreement on its merits. • This elegant, tightly curated list manages to capture both the dynamism and rich vinous heritage of modern Spain with a practised, effortless ease. Exciting new producers, old classics, rare bottles and off-the-beaten track wines – they’re all here and all priced to be drunk, too. Extensive without being ungainly, we simply fell in love with this. [Gold Star, Best Spanish Wine List – Star Wine List of the Year UK 2026.]
