About Chipirón

One of a handful of successful restaurants run by Argentina’s best-known winemaker, Alejandro Vigil – who also owns the acclaimed winery restaurants Casa Vigil and Angélica Cocina Maestra – Chipirón is his homage to traditional Spanish fish restaurants, and one of the few pescatarian venues in the province. As you’d expect with a winemaker at the helm, the wine list takes centre stage, with a good selection of whites to pair with the light, seafood-forward menu. The grilled rice dishes are mouthwatering, and fresh fish is flown in daily for the simple but well-executed menu.

The wine list features a range of Vigil’s own wines – including rare library vintages of El Enemigo and Catena Zapata – alongside thoughtfully chosen bottles from other Mendoza producers. There’s a clear and refreshing emphasis on white wines (a rarity in beef-centric Argentina), along with sparkling wines and skin-contact options. Service is slick, and you can choose to sit indoors with a view of the open kitchen, or enjoy a glass on the patio spilling out into the vibrant Planta Uno open market.
