About 1884 Mallmann
1884 was the first fine dining restaurant to open in Mendoza, back in 1999, and has been one of the hottest dates in the city ever since — as the flagship restaurant of renowned Argentine chef Francis Mallmann. With a penchant for the open flame, Mallmann’s cuisine is typically flame-grilled with a focus on native ingredients and flavours from around Argentina. 1884 wasn’t only a pioneer of fine dining in Mendoza, but this was also the first restaurant to have a serious cellar — with over 300 labels on the menu making it a favourite of winemakers and wine lovers too.

1884 Mallmann Wine List
All the most iconic wines of Argentina have found their way into the cellar of 1884 which prizes itself on having some 320 labels, most of which are from Mendoza. That’s not to say there’s little diversity in the wine offerings — the sommelier team has plenty of local eccentricities ranging from Sangiovese to Gewürztraminer. The speciality is, however, rich red Malbec-based blends, which best suit the sumptuous steak and meat dishes that Mallmann is so well known for. This is also the sort of establishment that diners are willing to splash out on, and the smart and slick service team are often uncorking some of Argentina’s most acclaimed wines. If you can’t get a table for dinner, you can pop into the bar for a glass or two of wine there.
