    There are many great bistros in Osaka, but I'd say that the very best is Bistro des Chenapans. It's located next to the tennis court in the beautiful Utsubo park. This is a bistro specialized in meat dishes, paired with natural wine.

    Chi-Fu is a one-starred Michelin restaurant in Nishi-Tenma, a quiet area lined with antique merchants in central Osaka. Here you'll find innovative Chinese-Asian cuisine, paired pairing with a beautiful wine selection from all over the world. The interior is inspired by the Shanghai concession and has an industrial and calm atmosphere.

    This place is located in a tiny building in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, one of the busiest areas in Osaka. On the ground floor,​ there's a shop and a bar, where you can have a glass wine and some snacks at the counter. Upstairs there's a dining room, where they mainly serve yakitori. On Mondays and every other Tuesday, they are closed.

    Gaku is a one Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant located next to the Utsubo park; the most beautiful park in Osaka. You can find Omakase style set menus or à la carte, Kappou style. Chef Gaku Imagawa is cooking by the counter and serving fine wines he selected himself.

    Hajime is an elegant and innovative three-star Michelin restaurant located in Higobashi in central Osaka. It has a great, young and passionate team. Chef Hajime Yoneda is one of the best chefs and leaders I have ever met. The creative dishes are rooted in ​French cuisine and are enjoyed by guests from all over the world. There are only set menus, and I suggest you order a menu that includes the Chikyu dish – it's amazing!

    Ko-Ya is a French-based innovative restaurant in Kitashinchi, Osaka's busiest night-time area. There are only 9 seats at the counter and they are full of wine lovers every day. The dishes are very nice and I guarantee you will be satisfied. The selection of daily glass wine suggested over the counter is very interesting, for example,​ Champagne by the magnum, natural Cru Beaujolais, Vin Jaune du Jura and Chenin Blanc from Swartland.

    La Kanro, located in the quiet residential area called Minamimoromachi, is one of the best restaurants to enjoy the finest wines from Burgundy in Osaka. They have a beautiful counter, a private room, and one set menu. The French-based fusion cuisine and beautiful selection of wines will definitely make you happy. The wine pairings are excellent but they also have a great wine list to choose from. When the dinner service is over, the venue turns into a bar.

    Chat Noir is a hideout wine bar located in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, one of the most eclectic parts of Osaka. Take a seat by the bar or at a table and enjoy some of their low-priced, authentic bistro cuisine all the way until midnight.

    La Champagne, as its name suggests, is a bar dedicated to Champagne, located in Kitashinchi. The limited 10-seat counter is always crowded, and this is a central spot for enjoying aperitifs and after-dinner drinks in an area with many restaurants in Osaka.

    Mashica is a restaurant and bar with a focus on natural wine and craft beverages, paired with Italian-based bar food. It's located in Higobashi, the business centre of Osaka city. The small dining room is usually crowded every day and in addition to the main counter seats, there are also tables for smaller groups, as well as seats outside for warm nights. The staff is friendly and helpful, and it would be a good experience to ask them the house rules, such as how to order.

    Nikolaschka is an okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) restaurant in Tenma, a beautiful riverside area in Osaka. In the casually decorated dining room, you can enjoy tasty dishes and traditional okonomiyaki, all served with natural wines.

    Not only for locals but for all the wine lovers in the world, I think Pasania is one of its kind in Osaka. It's located in Nakanoshima, and their history spans over more than half a century. People come from all over the world to try their combination of local traditional Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) and natural wine. This is also a place where a lot of chefs and sommeliers go to wind down with a glass of wine after they've finished their shifts.

    Pargolo is a lovely pizzeria with a whole building in Chidoribashi, in the outskirts of Osaka city. Even though it's in the suburbs, it is easy to visit, since it's right in front of the train station. I guarantee you that everything you eat here is wonderful: The pizzas, as well as the appetizers and plates of pasta, are delicious and you will have trouble choosing from the menu.

    RiVi is an Italian innovative restaurant located in Kyomachibori, in central Osaka. There are many Italian restaurants in Osaka, but RiVi is one of a kind. The small and elegant dining room has only 16 seats, and the creative menu is really amazing.

    Sakura is a French restaurant located close to Osaka Castle Park, managed by well-known Japanese hotel group The New Otani. Here you'll get a perfect view of the Osaka Castle, as well as classic French food together with excellent wines, mostly from France. With one of the best sommeliers in Japan, Hiroshi Sadakane, in charge, you can be sure you'll have a great evening.

    Souple is a French restaurant in Rokumantaicho, the area dotted with traditional temples. They have a wine shop and restaurant in one building and have been an asset to the wine scene in Osaka for a long time. Unusual for being in Osaka, Souple has a large dining room with over 40 seats, so there's room for quite a number of people. And they also have a bar counter so you can easily drop in alone.

    As the name implies, this is actually a winery: There are a few wineries in the city centre, where you can enjoy a nice meal and some natural wine while watching the work in the winery from the dining room upstairs. The food is Italian-style, using produce from all over Japan.

    Perche is a tiny and nice bar in Tenma, recently the hottest area for natural wine in Osaka. Here you'll find a standing counter and small tables for groups. The sommelier, Toshiya Kinoshita, is one of the best sommeliers of his generation. He knows everything about the traditional pairings of French cuisine and great French wine – but he's also very skilled and knowledgable when it comes to natural wine.
