Jean-Baptiste Klein
Alsace Ambassador

A true Alsatian, Jean-Baptiste began his career with an apprenticeship as a cook, but quickly discovered the fascinating world of wine and sommelier work.
Various experiences in different Michelin-starred French restaurants fueled his thirst for knowledge and discovery. His training started at La Verte Vallée in Munster, Alsace, followed by a winter spent tasting exceptional bottles at Le Chabichou in Courchevel. He then immersed himself in the Burgundian terroirs with Marc Meneau at L’Espérance in Saint-Père-sous-Vézelay, before moving on to a three-star Michelin experience with Restaurant Régis et Jacques Marcon in Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid.
Jean-Baptiste created his first wine list on the French Riviera, at Les Moulins de Mougins, where he earned the title of Best Young Sommelier of France in 2011. After that, he enjoyed five wonderful years in the heart of the Savoy vineyards at Clos des Sens in Annecy. He currently works at Le Chambard hotel in Kaysersberg, overseeing the wine lists for Olivier Nasti’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant and traditional Alsatian brasserie, La Winstub. He takes great pleasure in showcasing his region’s terroirs while honouring the great Burgundy climates, the Jura (which he adores), and much more.
Competitions have long punctuated Jean-Baptiste’s career, and he has proudly held the title of “Un des Meilleur Ouvrier de France en Sommellerie” since 2018. In 2024, he was named Sommelier of the Year by the prestigious Gault & Millau France guide.
