Trondheim’s Speilsalen at Britannia Hotel has the Best Sparkling Wine List in Norway 2025
The winners of Star Wine List of the Year Norway 2025 were announced in Oslo on 12 October. For the second year in a row, the Gold Star for Best Sparkling Wine List, supported by Nyetimber, has been awarded to Speilsalen at Britannia Hotel, in Trondheim.
After being praised by judge Salvatore Castano for its sparkling wine selection at Star Wine List of the Year Norway 2024 for its “incredible range of back vintages” and “global representation of sparkling wines,” Speilsalen at Britannia Hotel has this year been lauded for its “unquestionably world class” wine list by local judge Aase E. Jacobsen.
“This restaurant is among the most elegant in Norway, and the sparkling wine list reflects this,” Aase notes, in a category supported once again by English sparkling wine producer Nyetimber.
The hotel’s Head of Wine Thomas Andersen accepted his Gold Star from Karen-Sofie Stenzel, Brand Manager at Toast Group, on behalf of Nyetimber.
“It’s inspiring to see how sommeliers are curating sparkling wine lists with both depth and diversity – moving beyond Champagne to include top-quality sparkling wines from around the world,” Karen-Sofie notes. “This evolution reflects a broader appreciation for craftsmanship and terroir, values that are at the heart of Nyetimber’s philosophy.”
The Sussex-based producer is a long-term supporter of our Norwegian wine list competition. “Star Wine List has an excellent reputation among sommeliers and wine professionals,” says Karen-Sofie. “And increasingly among consumers as well. Being a partner reinforces Nyetimber’s focus on quality, and on being a natural part of the best venues where great wines and great people meet.”
Regarding the Norwegian wine scene in particular, Karen-Sofie has noticed “a growing curiosity for high-quality sparkling wines – not only Champagne, but also English sparkling, Franciacorta, and Sekt. Sommeliers are exploring and embracing diversity in style and origin, which makes Norway an exciting and forward-thinking market.”
