Arakataka Wine List

About Arakataka

Approaching its 25th birthday in 2026, this vibrant and affordable gourmet restaurant in downtown Oslo has managed to stay relevant ever since it burst onto the scene in 2001.

Now, the wine list is more interesting than ever – and prices continue to be on the manageable side of things. It is deeply rooted in France, with Jura, Champagne, Loire and Burgundy at its core, but also covers an abundance of German Rieslings, Italian reds and some overseas wines as well. A sure go-to for some nice bottles to accompany their set menu. That said, you could pop by, hang out in the bar and cherry pick from the à la carte menu.

  • Believe it or not, this place has been open for more than 20 years and it is still a favourite amongst everyone I know. The food has kept the same high level of quality and the wine list keeps evolving. Personally I tend to drink a lot of Cali wines here but their Riesling list is also a joy to choose from. Especially if you go for their pepper crab, which is to die for!

  • Sometimes a list doesn’t really fit the categories – and sometimes that is partly the reason why it is so good! Luckily, not everything conforms to a specific set of norms. The Special Jury Prize goes to a list displaying an unwavering commitment to what its creators believe in, with an amazing love letter to Jura and Loire enclosed. It emits confidence and love, with a no-nonsense approach. As you browse through it, preparing for the impossible task of choosing between so many tempting bottles, a clear red thread appears, underpinned by impeccable taste. It's a brilliant study in precision and the art of carving out a niche. [Star Wine List of the Year Norway 2024.]

  • Arakataka has been one of the most beloved restaurants in Oslo for over a decade now. And while the restaurant is excellent, the real treat is their food bar, which is open from Wednesday to Saturday. Here you can grab a nice meal as late as 00.30 at night, the wine list is ridiculously good, and when you're finally kicked out, there are tons of other venues close by.

    Last call: Sunday-Tuesday early, Wednesday-Saturday 00.30 (sometimes 01.30)

  • This place feels like home and is great for any occasion; if you want to get your hands dirty with pepper crab and riesling, or if you’re going all in and having everything on the menu. But mostly I end up in the bar – ‘matbaren’. Here you can order one small dish at the time while you look through the wine list, because that could take some time. I always have a hard time to decide what to get here because there are just too many goodies to choose from. Luckily the staff there has great taste and is always there to help.
