Planque Wine List
About Planque
Planque describes itself as a wine drinker’s clubhouse. Situated in the hip easterly neighbourhood of Haggerston it has a restaurant, members lounge, impressive cellar space, retail store and ongoing programme of wine events.
Spread across two railway arches, the restaurant and wine bar area features a hefty, long wooden table for communal dining and some more intimate tables for two and four. The food is creative and stylish, modern French with flair and seasonality at its core. With lots of pale wood and natural materials, it has a luxurious scandi vibe.
The wine list, whilst not extensive, still hits some excellent marks. It’s predominantly French, a who’s who of the good, the great, the cult and under the radar independent producers. Plenty of Jura and Savoie, a smattering of older vintages, the best grower Champagnes and a preference for Loire, Beaujolais and Rhone over traditional ‘grand chateau’ or weightier regions. To sum up, it’s a dynamic, precise and extremely drinkable edit.
Membership – should you wish to join – is £80 a month and allows you, amongst other benefits, the chance to store up to 72 bottles in the cellar, drinking two per month free of corkage, then it’s £10 per bottle after that.
