About Chapel Market Kitchen

Seafood, oysters, and Med-inspired plates are offered in abundance at this relaxed local North London restaurant. Located on a corner site in the bustly Chapel Market, it welcomes both bookings and walk-ins, with outdoor seating set up when weather permits. Food and wine are all very reasonably priced with a real sense of encouragement for everyone just to enjoy themselves.

Owner Maoz Alonim is originally from Israel, where he owned Basta, located in Tel Aviv’s Carmel Market. A man of great presence, he brings a deep love of wine here, resulting in a list that feels like a treasure hunt across the few pages clipped together. The aim is clear: to provide quality wines that let people drink well without breaking the bank – perfectly in keeping with its market location. It is strong on sherry by the glass, Loire whites and village red Burgundy to lean into the cuisine. The selection is predominantly Old World, mixing new-wave and old-school producers – there seem to be no rules to this list. Seek hard and you also will find a few surprises of incredible value, from the odd icon wine to bottles with age – perfect for a spontaneous splurge.

The food menu is extensive with plenty of flavoursome small plates to share alongside larger dishes. Anchovies with vanilla butter is a brilliant way to start – order them straight away with a few oysters and a sherry aperitif while you explore the full food and wine lists. Mondays have £1 oysters, and their regular wine events and monthly regional themes keep locals and regulars coming back. Chances are, you’ll want to return too – to try the dishes and the wines you missed the first time, and just as importantly, to enjoy the warm welcome and smile from Maoz himself.
