Le Café du Peintre

Le Café du Peintre has an impressive wine list with over 2,500 references. The selection is on a par with that of Michelin-starred restaurants, yet this establishment remains a traditional Lyonnais bouchon – unpretentious and welcoming. Situated between the Brotteaux district and Part-Dieu, it is run by Florence Périer, a chef and true Mère Lyonnaise, alongside her son Maxime, who manages the dining room.

Maxime is deeply passionate about wine, and he shares this enthusiasm with his guests in a natural and accessible way. His wine-by-the-glass offerings are “intuitive” (as he describes them), always carefully chosen to complement the dishes of the day while also catering to the preferences of each guest. The selection is ever-evolving.

Maxime is particularly committed to “free and committed” wines, many of which are crafted according to organic, biodynamic, or natural viticultural and winemaking methods. However, without being confined to this category, he also offers wines from prestigious estates, often under allocation, with a strong emphasis on regional wines. Moreover, great care is taken in the aging process: since 2015, Maxime has been cellaring certain estates, and now he proudly offers wines that are around 10 years old.
