About Kissa Tanto
Stepping into Kissa Tanto is a bit like stepping into another dimension. It is perhaps Vancouver’s best-looking restaurant, a sexy approximation of 1960s era Tokyo that somehow also channels a Wong Kar-wai film set.
A wonderful fusion of Japanese and Italian flavours, this elegant Chinatown restaurant offers a great mid-sized list curated by wine director Belinda Siu. The list doesn’t offer many options by the glass, however the by-the-bottle list is freewheeling and fun, and not limited to the wines of Italy. It also offers an impressive array of sake, many of them by the glass. The cocktail program is on point, as is the back bar, overflowing with top end amari and grappa selections.
Echoing the Italian focus of the food program, the wine list leans Italian as well but also features global selections, often opting for lighter styles and more delicate wines in order to highlight the Japanese inflections in the food.
