About Coalla

The very well-known Coalla Gourmet specialises in the distribution of wines and gourmet products from Asturias. It was established in 1955 by José Suarez Coalla in a small store on the central Plazuela San Miguel in Gijon; 60 years later the company has three times been awarded as the best gourmet shop in Spain.

Situated on one of the longest Madrid streets, Calle Serrano, Coalla Madrid is not just a great distributor of premium products, but a lovely big space with 400 square metres divided over two floors. In the upper section they've got the wine shop, where you are free to walk around and pick up a bottle to take home or enjoy downstairs, where you'll find a casual tapas food philosophy (their sandwiches and tuna toast are in high demand).

I would highly recommend putting yourself in Arturo Garcia, the head sommelier's hands. I still remember his recommendation of a great 100% Caracol grape from António Macanita in Madeira – it was just superb. His wine selection is focused on Spain, as well as international options, with more than 1,500 bins from all over the world focusing on small producers and indigenous grape varieties.

If you are a football lover, it is worth knowing that Coalla is just 10 minutes walking away from Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, a spot at which to celebrate its victories with a nice glass of wine.
