Karen Torosyan is one of the most gifted cooks in Belgium, and his restaurant one of Brussels’ most prestigious. He says he is first and foremost a craftsman - and that is the main reason why you go there. He is a master of all the French classics, and nobody can beat him when it comes to the likes of pâté en croute and pithiviers. However, be aware that in order to enjoy Torosyan’s classic dishes, you will need to book at least 48 hours ahead, but the upside to this is that you can also order a good bottle from the carefully curated wine list, and ask the sommelier to prepare it in advance so it is perfect for when you sit down on that special night. As a sommelier, I have often been frustrated by not having the time to prepare some special bottles a couple of hours before they were consumed, and a meal here means you can actually do that.

This city-centre restaurant offers top service, a great wine list showing classic estates from classic regions, but also ventures into newbies and up and coming producers.

Images of the pâté en croûte, pithivier and beef wellington will have you salivating, not only over their mouth-watering pastry dishes, but across the entire menu, where the eye for detail and quest for perfection is apparent. The cooking here is classic, balanced and understated, using simple but tasty ingredients that make the dishes shine.

The restaurant interior has a warm, relaxed vibe, with an open kitchen, wooden floors, tables decked out in starched linen table cloths and elegant Spiegelau and Riedel glassware. The service, as you would expect, is impeccable, while the extensive wine list strikes a great balance between classic regions such as Bordeaux and Burgundy and other traditional European appellations, and exciting finds from less well known regions.
