About Beau
Beau is permanently closed.
Hidden in a very narrow laneway in the heart of Surry Hills, Beau is the newest, and undoubtedly most polished Sydney venue from the Nomad Group. Deep, moody tones and industrial textures define the venue’s minimalist aesthetic, which is at once comfortable and refined.
Owners Al and Rebecca Yazbek, and Group Chef Jacqui Challinor have long been revered for their philosophy of incredible yet approachable food and quality ingredients, and here it’s no different. Middle Eastern-accented dishes champion the very best local produce, expertly assembled by Head Chef Troy Spencer. The beauty of Beau (get it?) is in its seamless ability to be both a wine bar and restaurant – so if it’s just snacks and a delicious glass of something you’re after, you’ll be well accommodated. The sommeliers in charge have constructed a smart, well-honed list that will easily satisfy the most discerning punter.
Beau’s wine list packs a lot into its 21 pages, including 16 by the glass, traversing the globe with distinct nods to Australia and New Zealand. It harnesses both quality and value – and a slight minimal intervention theme to boot. It’s exciting to see quality methode traditionelle options from outside Champagne, as is a decent selection of aligoté, although it is difficult to look past the Riesling page. Fans of world-class chardonnay, skin contact whites and chilled reds are well-catered to, as are those seeking more Italianate expressions or a super bottle of cabernet sauvignon.
