    In the hip and relaxed seaside neighbourhood of South Fremantle, you will find Madalenas, a quaint and sunny little restaurant where the kitchen is devoted to working with local fishmongers. This unassuming venue houses one of the greatest lists in Perth, compiled by knowledgeable owner and sommelier Foni Pollitt. The list is detailed and considered with plenty of depth and breadth. The impressive selection of Champagne is a standout, as is a section exclusively designated to wines from volcanic soils. The winemakers of Western Australia converge here whenever they come to town, which is a sure sign of a venue dedicated to the grape.

    The renowned Rockpool is an upmarket steak restaurant housed within the Crown Metropol precinct. The dining room is bold and serious, sitting alongside a large open kitchen. The bar is sophisticated, where excellent burgers alongside grand cru burgundy is most definitely an option.     The pewter bar top welcomes you into a darkly lit, intimate space along Perth’s main business drag. The Heritage is a tale of two cities. Starting out life as an upmarket French bistro, pivoting into its very sleek and considered approach to wine bar seamlessly a few years ago. There is a fresh coastal energy to the bright, breezy space, with the option of alfresco dining on the deck being incredibly popular whenever the sun is out. The wine list is expertly structured and extensive, with a playful spin encouraging diners to broaden their wine education at the table. Plenty to choose from, with a strong focus on Champagne & Sparkling, Riesling and other varietals that drink well by the sea.
