Scandinavia's like the cool kid in class when it comes to being green, so it's no surprise that we had so many restaurants and wine bars competing in the Sustainable Wine List category at Star Wine List of the Year Sweden 2025. The winner is a casual dining restaurant in Växjö, Kronoberg County.

At an awards ceremony held in Stockholm this week, the Gold Star for Sustainable Wine List in our Swedish competition was presented to Växjö's Villa & Trädgård de luxe by category sponsor Oddbird.

The jury took into consideration the overall impact of each wine program – from vine growing and winemaking, to packaging and transport – all assessed via an extensive questionnaire during the application process.

“This is undoubtedly one of my favourite categories,” says jury member Salvatore Castano, “and we have chosen this list as the best among many other outstanding ones for its exceptional sustainability program, which demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, ethical practices, and a forward-thinking approach to winemaking.”

Villa & Trädgård de luxe will now join our Sustainable Wine List winners from around the world in the Star Wine List of the Year International Final 2025, which will be held in Vienna this June.

Take a look at the full list of winners in Star Wine List of the Year Sweden 2025.

Categories and criteria

Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.

The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.

The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
