Star Wine List crowned the best Danish wine lists at an awards ceremony in Copenhagen on 2 September, the home of Geranium restaurant, winner of Best Austrian Wine List.

"Thanks for recognising all the different work we have done," said Head Sommelier Andrea Roug Sala on collecting the award for Best Austrian Wine List alongside colleague Thomas Vanhove. "The Austrian wines are always popular in our restaurant because of all the wine pairing. We always try our best to keep up-to-date and have had the opportunity to buy in some back vintages."

Jury member Kathrine Larsen-Robert MS praised Geranium’s “impressive Austrian selection, both in terms of regions, producers, and colours, but also vintages and price points.”

This Gold Star was one of three awarded to Geranium at the event (in addition to Best Sparkling and Best Spirits lists) and was presented by Oliver Chramosta from the category's sponsor, Austrian Wine.

"Denmark has developed into one of the most important export countries for Austrian wine," Chramosta explained to attendees. "And one of the reasons is because of wine restaurants, wine bars and sommeliers promoting Austrian wine. Awarding those wine lists, helping our producers to export our wines and show the diversity of Austria is something we want to help and support, and so we are always happy to be here with Star Wine List."

The event was the first stop on Star Wine List’s international tour 2024/2025, which travels next to Latvia for the Baltic awards.

Categories and criteria

Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.

The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.

The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in summer 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
