“Danish consumers are definitely spoiled” – meet the winners of Star Wine List of the Year Denmark 2024
On Monday 2 September, the Star Wine List of the Year awards returned to Denmark, celebrating the best wine lists in the country – and the teams behind them. Here are all the winners!
“This is my third year judging Star Wine List Denmark and the quality of the lists sent in never ceases to surprise me,” says jury member, Julie Dupouy-Young. “The depth of knowledge and passion it takes to create all of these lists - be they short or long - is evident, and greatly appreciated.”
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony held during the Danish Sommelier Championship in Copenhagen.
The event kicked off Star Wine List’s worldwide tour, which will culminate with an International Final in June 2025, where finalists in the international categories for each region will compete for global stardom.
“Copenhagen is always a great place to start a celebration," says Krister Bengtsson, Publisher of Star Wine List. "The range and knowledge of the Danish wine scene is second to none, all the way from the natural wine bars to bistros and the most prestigious fine dining. It was fun to see new names among the finalists and winners too - congratulations to all who made it."
Meet our winners:
International Categories:
Grand Prix
– The best list overall
Gold Star:
Bistro Boheme, Copenhagen
What the judges said:
“The list has a really good, moderately sized, and balanced selection of origins and producers, with some vintage variability and varying price points as well. Impressive Burgundy selection!”
– Kathrine Larsen-Robert MS
What the winners said:
"Thank you so much - this really was unexpected, really an honour. It’s a pleasure to be here and see all of you that I haven’t seen for a long time, since having three kids! Congratulations all the nominees and winners, and thank you. We just try to make people happy."
– Christian Gustafsson Cazón, Head Sommelier, Bistro Boheme
Best Long List
– For wine lists with more than 600 references
Presented by Achaval Ferrer
Gold Star:
Alchemist, Copenhagen
What the judges said:
“Although there were several incredibly impressive wine lists amongst the finalists, Alchemist stood out for the diverse selection of origins and producers (some with enviable depth of vineyards and cuvees), varied vintages, and an overall easy-to-navigate layout.”
– Kathrine Larsen-Robert MS
What the winners said:
"What a surprise! We expected something else, so thank you so much. It's really an amazing time for Alchemist and for the sommelier department - we can see something exciting happening. But I promise you, as I promised the somms, that we will not bring more different labels on the list because 3,500 is enough!"
– Christopher Kok, Head Sommelier, Alchemist

Best Medium-Sized Wine List
– Recognizes the best wine list with 200-600 references.
Presented by DAOU Vineyards
Gold Star:
Bistro Boheme, Copenhagen
What the judges said:
“Measured against a long, voluminous list, a medium-sized list can’t possibly be as deep, but it can be every bit as exciting as the long lists. Even more importantly, a medium-sized list writer has to make choices, providing character and a unique personality. So it is with Bistro Boheme: it’s choosy in spots and expansive in others, especially if you are on the hunt for phenomenal Burgundy.”
– Doug Frost MS MW
What the winners said:
"[Our philosophy is] to make everyone happy. We're producer-oriented - producers that we love but, also, we’ll always have an open eye for new producers. It's a classic list more or less."
– Christian Gustafsson Cazón, Head Sommelier, Bistro Boheme

“This is how one does a smaller wine list - wonderfully varied and very carefully selected wines representing a broad spectrum of new wave, natural and classics. A delicious and thoughtful point of view with excellent, insightful picks without costing the earth!!”
– Stephen Wong MW
What the winners said:
"This is for the people working in the restaurant - I’m just sitting there and trying to help them, to put good things on the list; they’re the ones bringing this to the table and to guests. So this one is for them."

What the judges said:
“Who does La Tache, Ramonet and Domaine Leflaive by the glass? Visselulles Vinbar, that’s who. Most of us will never be able to afford a bottle of such famed and rare wines but a glass is within reach from this remarkable list. Honestly, it isn’t just the lofty wines – there are the very affordable ones too, and everything in between. It’s a feast!!”
– Doug Frost MS MW
What the winners said:
"It’s insane being nominated and it’s insane winning! We are every day working with a lot of wine, nearly 150 wines by the glass, so this is very nice."

The red Burgundies, in particular, contain a wealth of favoured names. Bravo!” –
Doug Frost MS MW
