Döllerer is our Austrian Grand Prix winner 2025
In the final regional competition of the Star Wine List of the Year tour for 2024/’25, the best wine lists in Austria were revealed at an event in Vienna. The event’s highest honour, the Grand Prix, has gone to Best Long List winner Döllerer.
Star Wine List of the Year is a celebratory awards tour recognising the teams behind the world’s greatest wine lists. Golling’s Döllerer restaurant (founded in 1909) received the Gold Star for Best Long List in Austria this year, for a considerable wine selection praised for its “diversity, depth and variety” by the judges.
At an awards ceremony held at Weingut Fritz Wieninger in Vienna, Döllerer’s Head Sommelier Alex Koblinger MS was also presented with a Gold Star in the Grand Prix – the competition’s overall ultimate award and a category sponsored by Premium Estates of Austria.
“One may pause in awe, but the (wine-) wise connoisseur knows: this is not a place for idle wonder,” judge Stefan Neumann MS. “This is a wine list worthy of legend – perhaps the greatest assembly of wines in Austria, if not the known world. Lesser deeds have inspired hymns and anthems, yet this list offers more than one could desire. This is your chance to go to heaven more than once.”
Döllerer will now compete in the Star Wine List of the Year International Final, which takes place in Vienna once more, on Monday 16 June. “It should not be a list of pins,” Alex said of his list. “We are not selling numbers. It’s about stories, it’s about enthusiasm, it’s about passion – that’s it.”

Judges
The judging panel for Star Wine List of the Year Austria 2025 comprised four world-class sommeliers:
• Heidi Mäkinen – Master of Wine
• Salvatore Castano – Best Sommelier of Europe and Africa 2021 (ASI)
• Mikk Parre – Best Sommelier of Europe, Africa and Middle East 2024 (ASI)
• Stefan Neumann – Master Sommelier
Categories and criteria
Star Wine List judges the wine lists in several categories such as the Best Sparkling Wine List and Best By the Glass List. These categories are the same across all of the awards. In addition, local categories may be added. We have commercial partners for certain categories, such as the Best Austrian Wine List, presented by Austrian Wine. The commercial partners are, however, never involved in the selections of finalists or winners — that is completely up to our independent jury panel.
The criteria for the jury are straightforward but not simple: vote for the most exciting wine list representing the category.
The winners in the international categories will qualify for our International Final in June 2025, where they will face off with the category winners from other countries and continents.
