Climat in Manchester has won the Best Up-and-Coming Wine List of the 2023 Star Wine List of the Year UK with The Buyer awards. It is a new category to highlight great wine lists from venues that have recently opened or that are going places.

Climat's list ”reads as something put together with passion and thought," said jury member Ruth Spivey, Star Wine List’s UK Ambassador. “It’s got something for everyone."

Jerome Boullier from Climat said that they were delighted to receive the award, which they didn't expect, as they'd only opened on 2 December 2022.

"We’re really new," he said. "Our focus was always Burgundy, and that’s for sure the strongest part of the list. Now we’re just fine-tuning the rest of the world."

Boullier added that Climat would definitely like to apply again next year.

"We’d like to, for sure," he said. "There are a few different categories, and this year we were nominated for best mid-sized list and best newcomer."

The category was presented by Château Palmer.

The award was presented at the Winemakers Club in London on Monday, 20 February 2023. The silver medalists in the category were:

Restaurant St. Barts, London
Sète, Margate
Studio Frantzén, London
The Terrace Rooms & Wine, Ventnor
Veraison Wines, London

About Climat in Manchester

Only recently opened, Climat in Manchester has already generated plenty of buzz. Describing itself as a “wine-led, roof-top restaurant”, it has a cellar of approximately 300 wines, with an emphasis on Burgundy.

As for the food, Executive Chef Luke Richardson best defines his style of cooking as ‘Parisian expat food’ – a nod towards the time he spent in the cosmopolitan kitchens of the French capital.

The Guardian’s food critic Jay Rayner said of the food: “What’s striking about the menu, which changes by the day, is its depth. There is so much more here to try.”
