In a micro-climate cooled by the Black Forest, Hans-Bert Espe and Silke Wolf farm a couple of hectares with little regard for big yields. Thoughtfulness in the vineyard takes precedence at Shelter where it is ok to make only a little bit of great wine. The N114 and namesake of the winery comes from a Canadian air base bunker where the couple first made wine. It is made from the smallest bunches of the oldest vines in their Nordweil vineyard planted with dijon clones in 1971. The wine is delicate and shadowy and may take some time to unwind but even Hans-Bert will admit it is the best wine they have made.

Lovely Creatures, Western Cape Cabernet Sauvignon, 2022 {From The Famed Wine Maker Stephanie Wiid}, The high elevation vineyards of the Uco Valley are what make this Malbec so special. Malbec struggles to maintain acidity in lower elevations but does fabulously in higher elevation spots where there is a large diurnal temperature shift (cold nights and sunny days). Forastero (Spanish for "stranger is a dense and layered red wine, with loads of crushed plum, macerated blackberry and lovely tea and spice notes. Grapes are farmed from vines ranging 1, 100 and 1, 500 meters in elevation, Shelter Winery, Baden Spätburgunder, 2021
