About Tempo

This casual wine bar and restaurant serves modern Southeast Asian small plates in a beautiful old railway arch in Bethnal Green. The venue is a partnership between chef Eric Wan and Dan Long (who is also behind Dan’s wine bar and wine supplier Parched). This makes sure the wines are as worthy as the food, which is influenced by Eric’s Chinese and Vietnamese heritage.

The eye-catching large wall of wine is a giveaway to the important role wine plays here, with all bottles available either to enjoy with dinner or to take away. The slant is the same as Dan’s – exceptional pricing with a focus on good quality, clean, low intervention wines, many of which follow organic or biodynamic principles. The short, printed list is only a sample of what is on offer from the shelves, while wines served by the glass are written on the wall and change regularly. The highly competent and energetic bottle slingers will quickly adapt after a chat and recommend something to suit your preferences and forthcoming food.

There is a choice of seating here with some big tables for groups, or counter seating for one or two diners at the large open kitchen. The latter is a brilliant option if you like to continue the wine conversation throughout the meal, rolling from one glass to the next with the staff eager to show a wine aficionado what is open in the fridges under the counter.
