The food menu is a lesson in laid back sophistication. Morning staples like eggs, crumpets, and toast make way for confident versions of all-day favourites such as Caesar salad, crudo, and tajin fries. There’s a generous vegetable section including plates of buttered cabbage, mushroom skewers, and leek deftly cooked over coal and woodfire. Then there's Whitehart Kurobuta pork scotch fillet, line-caught Awatoru fish, and Ohau Wagyu beef steaks among the mains.

San Ray's wine list, though compact, is expertly curated to include solid selections from classic wine regions, catering to every budget. A notable feature is the addition of skin contact wines, chilled reds, and alcohol-free options, providing something unique and intriguing for every palate. The wine list is both comprehensive and approachable, making it easy for guests to find the perfect pairing for their meal.

I personally appreciate the versatility and quality that San Ray offers. The option to enjoy a Champagne breakfast is a delightful touch, and "The Feast" sharing plates are fantastic for those who love diversity and want to taste a bit of everything.
