About Apero Wine Bar

Apéro is a very special place on the Auckland hospitality scene: a labour of love established by restaurateur couple Leslie Hottiaux and Ismo (Mo) Koski. The interior is warm and inviting with brick walls, dim lights and stylish furniture. It’s a small yet cosy establishment situated on the prominent central curve of K-Road’s dining district. Greeted by Mo’s warm smile, unassuming nature and home-like hospitality, you feel immediately relaxed from the moment you walk in. The tables are spread on two sides of the narrow room with the kitchen and bar at the rear. You might join a communal table or enjoy the busy vibe with a glass of wine at the bar.

The food menu is composed from a variety of dishes which are ever-changing according to seasonality. The entire menu is based on a ‘trust the chef’ philosophy, and designed to share. Hailing from Toulouse in France, Leslie brings a wealth of experience and generations of family recipes to Apéro’s kitchen, executing every dish with creative flair, precision and classic technique. My favourite picks are the Apéro Charcuterie Platter, and Roasted Cauliflower with Goats Curd, Almond & Mint.

At Apéro you will find an extensive selection of wines from around the world, mostly focused on major wine producing countries like France, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Australia and, of course, New Zealand. Don’t be shy to ask for suggestions or mention if you are looking for something specific. Wine conversations are encouraged and there is usually something intriguing to try by glass. Mo knows his wine list inside and out and is always willing to open a bottle, just to make sure you will enjoy the experience. The staff are knowledgable and friendly. At Apéro you feel as if you are welcomed to Mo and Leslie’s home - the only difference is you have to pay the bill at the end.
