About Sain

There is something special about the Rue Maréchal-Joffre. The district’s architecture doesn’t seem to make much historical sense, with a Gothic cathedral, a Renaissance-inspired art museum, many post-war buildings, remains of Roman and Middle-Age stone walls… And yet, this nonsensical mix seems to work together, somewhat echoing the street’s food and wine offering. It’s not short of diversity, from take-aways catering to the large student population to some of the finest hidden gems in town. Sain belongs to the latter, although it’s hardly ‘hidden’ anymore.

Founded by two brothers who grew up in a family of vegetable producers, the restaurant has built a local reputation for the quality of its farm-to-fork cuisine and wine selection. Local and seasonal ingredients are paired with a strong selection of wines from the Pays Nantais and Loire regions. Reasonably priced, the bottles mostly come from organic producers they personally know and cherish. The by-the-glass selection changes regularly – in fact, they often open what they like on the day. Guests are welcome to peruse the shelves and choose a bottle to drink in or take home.
