About Kombu

How not to fall in love with the energy of this place? The name ‘Kombu’ comes from a Japanese seaweed that also grows on the coast of Brittany, home to the three founders. The promise of local cuisine with an Asian twist and umami kick is more than fulfilled here.

The whirlwind of natural wine glasses and small plates swirling through the room and out onto the terrace on a busy evening perfectly captures the spirit of Nantes’ new dining scene. Bold, surprising, razor-sharp flavours cut through like fire blades, giving the organic wine selection a thrilling match to play with. You won’t find any big labels here – just a generous choice of wines from new-wave natural producers, all at accessible prices. This is the kind of place where there’s no need for a by-the-glass menu – the laidback yet knowledgeable team will have your glass filled seconds after you ask.
