About Napier Quarter
If Napier Quarter were a person, it’d be that impossibly cool friend who always knows the best wines, makes effortlessly good food, and somehow pulls off vintage linen shirts without looking like they’ve just emerged from a pile of laundry. Nestled in the backstreets of Fitzroy, this tiny, sun-dappled, European-style wine bar and café is proof that less is more.
The wine list is thoughtful, restrained, and perfectly in tune with the place. Expect a small but mighty selection of lo-fi, food-friendly wines; a love letter to France and Italy but with plenty of local gems in the mix. For what it’s lacking in length, it makes up for with its thoughtful approach, integrating small producers. There’s a constant rotation of wines by the glass, so it’s the kind of spot where you can just put yourself in the hands of the staff and be led to something delicious.
And speaking of the team: friendly, passionate, and refreshingly unpretentious, they’re the kind of people who make you feel like a regular, even if it’s your first time. I am always one for stopping by on the way home for a little dose of the comfy Northside vibe.
The food is simplicity at its absolute best. Think buttery anchovy soldiers, seasonal tartines, creamy burrata with whatever produce is currently making the chefs swoon. Everything is made with a quiet confidence, the kind that comes from knowing that good ingredients need little fussing over. It is tiny and intimate, and if you have casual and easy-going in mind, Napier Quarter always feels like the right decision.
