About Il Pagliaccio
Awarded with two Michelin stars, this venue consistently delivers a gastronomic experience that exceeds expectations. The location is on Via dei Banchi Vecchi, which offers a brief yet historically rich and beautiful walk into the heart of Rome's historic centre. The atmosphere is intimate and elegant, with a few tables arranged on a checkerboard floor, under a ceiling of exposed wooden beams. The combination of wood, iron, and soft lighting adds to the overall sense of elegance. Led by chef Anthony Genovese, who opened Il Pagliaccio 20 years ago after gaining extensive experience around the world, the restaurant derives its name from a painting of a clown gifted to Genovese by his mother.
The wine list, carefully curated by sommelier Luca Belleggia in collaboration with the general manager Matteo Zappile, one of the biggest names in the hospitality industry in Italy, offers well over 1,300 references. Italy is well represented, but there are also gems from all over the world.
To complement the dining experience, the restaurant boasts a dining room team recently honoured as the 'Best Dining Room Team 2024' by L'Espresso.
