About Il Goccetto
The street is that of Banchi Vecchi, right in front of the two-star Il Pagliaccio. This family-run wine temple has likely seen millions of bottles opened within its walls, recently celebrating 40 years of service. Sergio and Anna, the owners, have preserved the legacy of the previous establishment, a "Vini e Olio" that once specialized in selling food and bulk wine, and still features the banner in front of the venue.
The atmosphere is also familiar, and lively, surrounded by shelves adorned with bottles and frequented by celebrities from the worlds of culture and entertainment, who often pop in for a moment of relaxation. The culinary offerings are simple and appetizing, particularly the cheeses and cured meats, although securing a seat can be challenging.
A blackboard on the wall showcases the offerings available by the glass, while for the discerning palate, there's a rather extensive wine list boasting around 800 mostly Italian references, capable of satisfying even the most ardent fanatics. The prices are fair, especially considering the prime location amidst the beauty of Rome.
