Sister pub to the Anchor & Hope in Waterloo, the Canton Arms is also situated south of the river, between Stockwell, Vauxhall and the Oval. The menu is similar – hearty but finely cooked dishes reflecting the best regional bistros across France and Italy that place produce and provenance to the fore.

The European wine list is plentiful (especially for a pub with close to 100 references) and packed with the best organic, biodynamic and natural growers. There’s a generous selection by the glass, all attractively priced allowing you to try lots of different styles. Interesting, authentic, and honest value across the board.
